Ojcow National Park

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the beauty of nature!

Embark with us on an extraordinary expedition to the smallest, but incredibly picturesque Polish National Park. The landscape of this unique place is dominated by limestone rocks and cliffs formed by nature in unusual shapes (hence their fancy names – Needle of Deotyma, Cudgel of Hercules or… Elephant’s Ass; let us apologize for using non-political word).

We will take a walk through the beautiful Valley of the swift river called Prądnik and explore a huge cave (or two caves, it depends on You).  You have to know, that this funny bat did not take place in the park logo by accident;) Our Krakow guides also want to show You two impressive castles situated on the Trail of the Eagles Nests, a huge medieval defence system, containing 25 power strongholds located on the tops of limestone hills between Kraków and Częstochowa. Along the route we will see wonderful examples of local wooden architecture and many breathtaking views.

As usual, we offer a meal break during the tour. Transfer by minibus from the vicinity of  Jaskinia Ciemna (‘the dark cave’) to Pieskowa Skała Castle is also provided.

Ojcow National Park Sightseeing with a guide is a wonderful opportunity to relax in the bosom of nature and see Krakow rural surroundings and local wildlife. If You want to try something different, than visiting city sights, just go for this offer!

Guided tour in English, German, Swedish, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian or Polish

Ojcow Castle - Krakow sightseeing

Ojcow Castle

Absolutely spectacular, picturesque ruins from the times of King Kasimir the Great (2nd half of the 14th century). The castle is situated on a steep cliff rising above the Prądnik Valley. On the surviving tower we will watch a small exhibition devoted to the history of the fortress.

Ojcow Sightseeing - National Museum

Ojcow National Park Museum

A must-see for all nature lovers. Modern, multimedia exhibition will tell You everything about the wildlife of the Park. How do the strange Ojcow rocks form? Who lives or lived in the local caves? We promise, in the museum You will get the answers to all these questions and many others.

Pradnik Valley - Krakow sightseeing

Prądnik Valley

Its area is over 2000 hectares. A magnificent limestone cliffs rise above it and the Prądnik River– responsible for the erosion processes that led to the formation of the valley– flows through it. The trail along the valley is one of the most beautiful routes in the vicinity of Krakow.

Jonaszowka - Ojcow National Park Sightseeing

Jonaszówka Rock

The Rock is also called ‘Gruby Janek’ which means ‘The Fat Johnny’. There is a fantastic view point on its top. From the special platform You can see the entire Prądnik Valley with the river, picturesque wooden houses and the ruins of the castle on the opposite site. It is one of the most adorable views we have ever seen!

Lokietek Cave - Krakow Guide

Chełmowa Mountain and King’s Łokietek Cave

A little bit of climbing. The mountain is 472 m amsl high. Its slopes are covered with beautiful beech forest. We will enter to the huge cave consisting of several large chambers. According to the legend, King Wladislaus Łokietek took shelter in the cave, escaping the troops of the Czech King Wenceslaus. Life of the 13th-century Polish monarch was saved by a small spider, which clouded entrance to the cave by spider’s web.

Guide Krakow - Tight Rocks

Ciasne Skałki (‘Tight Rocks’)

Narrow and steep, V-shaped gorge. Going down the slippery, moss-covered boulders is a fantastic adventure (although it requires caution). There is a unique microclimate in the gorge (much colder than outside) and a variety of unique plants grows between the rocks. Narrow and steep, V-shaped gorge. The Fountain of Love - Ojcow Krakow Guide

The Fountain of Love

A common name for one of the many fountains in the Ojcow National Park. Legend says that drinking water from the stone pool has once brought a great love for a couple of random wanderers. Lovers should taste the water to make sure, that Your feeling will be eternal.

Dark Cave - Krakow Sightseeing

Jaskinia Ciemna (‘The Dark Cave’)

The largest cave in the National Park (200 metres long). Relics of the Neanderthal encampment from 125 thousands years ago have been discovered here. The cave is inhabited by charming bats (lesser horseshoe bats with a strange but cute snouts) and the most venomous spiders in Poland – orbweaving cave spiders. There is no need to panic, the last time we were in the cave we saw only one of these little monsters.

Krakow Sightseeing - Pieskowa Skala Castle

Pieskowa Skała Castle

This time we will not see the ruins, but a beautiful Renaissance castle situated on a high, steep and very picturesque rock. The original fortress was built during the reign of King Casimir the Great, just like Ojcow Castle and all of the strongholds situated on the Trail of the Eagles Nests, but in the 16th century the castle was rebuilt in Renaissance style. By the way, King Casimir was the son of Władysław Łokietek of the cave;)

The Cudgel of Hercules - Ojcow Sightseeing

Maczuga Herkulesa (‘The Cudgel of Hercules’)

The name of this high and bizarre rock perfectly captures its shape. There is of course a number of legends explaining its strange form. One of them says that it is actually a club of Krak, the legendary ruler of Krakow, who apparently used this terrible weapon to kill the Wawel Dragon. Anyway, the rock is a really impressive geological formation.
